Maison JSK is a luxury retail concept store that aims to cater to
all aspects of luxury under one roof. It aims to provide a unique luxury
experience, currently lacking in the Australian market. Maison JSK consists of
retail, a cafe/restaurant and spa service.
Based on research
topic of 'The importance of luxury brands to Asians,' the underlying Chinese
social concept of 'face' became the main conceptual theme for this space. In
modern society, luxury brands are consumed in order to elevate ones social
status. Mien Tzu (the exterior face) and Lien (the moral face) are the two
opposing yet interrelated values that form the concept of face. Mien Tzu can then
be translated into consumption and Lien into spirituality. Due to the high
significance of the face in Asian culture, luxury branding has become increasingly significant.
These values were then used in the selection of the services to be
offered by MaisonJSK and as the main conceptual theme; in which the two opposing
yet interrelated values of the 'face' are highlighted within the space, with the
deign elements reflecting deeply, the nature of the research. The user is taken
on a journey through these interrelated values; ultimately aiming to
enhance one's face.
